After UT Austin's College of Natural Sciences I interviewed and was invited to conduct research for a doctor that was as kind as he was brilliant. This physician's leadership gave me complete freedom regarding my scientific approach and methodology. Self-initiative drove my self-teaching of some of the most innovative methods of biomedical research; coding in R (similar languages) and building inferential and predictive statistical analyses and models. In less than a year we began analysis of the first metropolitan pre-hospital whole blood delivery system in the United States and subsequently published my first author manuscript in the field's number-one ranked journal, “Resuscitation.”
The name of this physician is Christopher J. Winckler M.D. L.P., Deputy Medical Director for the Office of Medical Director (OMD), Professor at Texas State University and UT Health San Antonio Medical Center, and Chair of the Texas Governor's EMS and Trauma Advisory Council (GETAC).
